about

bwah:spatium is the moniker of Balinese musician and architect Arya Triandana who is active in the Bali underground scene with Rollfast and various multidisciplinary projects. LAÉBUH is the presentation of bwah:spatium in the main medium of sound composition. In mid-2021, LAÉBUH's material exploration began with sketches of bedroom jamming amidst Arya Triandana's busy schedule as an architectural consultant. Arya tried to record an upright bass and guitar layer under his steam through an iPhone and processed it in the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) program. At the same time, Arya found the master CD of the Slamming Death Metal album Pluverigore, his former band with high school friends who then took vocal samples to chop and add it in the composition of the EP LAÉBUH.

LAÉBUH elaborates Arya Triandana's perspective to the environment he lives in, where it intersects with traditional community culture and social modernization, how he grew up with rockabilly, metal gigs, experimental electronic presentations and club culture. The EP comes with 4 tracks, ANGKUHL starts with heavy rock riffs with vernacular nuances ending with striking dub echoed-out snares and slamming vocal samples. Followed by BAHT on the second track, upright bass sounds like a kendang with detune guitar strumming — like a Sekaa orchestral ensemble in a bass section playing their instruments backstage while drinking palm wine in performance breaks. LENÉNC feels like it takes us to an airy dimension, followed by a synth drone sound in the style of stoner rock riffs and upright bass slap with a slamming vocal sample cut in the middle of the arrangement. LAÉBUH ends with the same title track, a mix of bass tapping sounds with a syncopated blast beat. The entire material in this EP presents a solid compositional mix of electronic instrument harmonies and abstract textures that are absurd but lukewarm to the ear.
